The gearbox fitted to the Jaguar Mk VII, VIII and Jaguar IX plus the Jaguar
Mk I and Mk II saloons is known as the Moss Box. Reverse
is located to the left and up. There is no synchromesh on first
gear. We do not use this gearbox in the Suffolk SS100.
The gearbox fitted to the Mk X Jaguar 420, the later S Type saloons
and all XJ6 cars is known as the Short Compact. Reverse
is to the left and down. There is synchromesh on first gear. This
is our first choice of gearbox for the Suffolk SS100 as it is very
strong and also fitted with Laycock overdrive.
Late Series III Jaguar XJ6 cars were fitted with a 5 speed gearbox
that was originally designed for the Rover SD1. This option is available
as an alternative gearbox for the SS100.
The vast majority of Jaguar XJ6 cars were made with 3 speed automatic
transmission. A number of the Suffolk SS100 cars have been fitted
with this gearbox.
Some customers have fitted their cars with Getrag gearboxes and
one car has a Borg-Warner T5 manual gearbox. We can advise you.
Final Drive - Differentials
All Suffolk SS100 cars are fitted with the Salisbury Jaguar final
drive unit.
Usual ratios are 3.31:1 and 3.54:1. Other ratios are available.
Limited slip differentials are available at extra cost.
