The majority of our customers have never built a car before. So you might feel daunted by the prospect of investing your savings to embark on a self build car project. Here are a few comments and thoughts to ponder on. Over 140 of these cars have now been built, mainly by self build owners who enjoyed building their SS100 at home. We have a comprehensive step by step Owners’ Build Manual, which takes you logically through the various stages of building your car. Owners who opt to buy their car as a Rolling Chassis Assembly will have most of the mechanical work already done. 555

Suffolk Sportscars provide a fully staffed workshop and back-up with dedicated customer phone/fax plus email for enquiries and technical assistance. The car you build at home is exactly the same as the cars we build at the works. Please see the Works Build section of the website, which will give you the overall specification of the car and much other information. You may purchase components whenever you wish, to suit your own build programme. We do not insist that all parts are purchased within a restricted period of time following the placing of your order. You set the timescale, and we respond to your orders and timeframe. Our business is very much ongoing, and this car has been in continuous production for 17 years. Owners’ testimonials are available, but another recommendation is to seek out a Suffolk SS100 owner at a Jaguar Club day. Some customers want their SS100 build project to include time to restore all their Jaguar donor parts at home. There is great personal satisfaction in being able to undertake and achieve a full engine and drivetrain rebuild. Alternatively, we can supply every donor mechanical part, either new or fully restored, ready to build the car as a Big Boy’s Meccano set. In addition to the production of parts for our cars, we also supply many parts to owners of the original SS100 cars , as they are exactly the same. See our separate list.

Owners Workshop Requirements

Workshop

  • A single 16' x 8' garage can be used, but more space is always an advantage. Size Matters !
  • A Workbench with a vice is advantageous. Good lighting is recommended

Tools

  • A set of A/F and a set of Metric spanners
  • Electric drill and bits
  • 2BA Tap
  • 3/8 UNF Tap
  • Electrical terminal pliers
  • Selection of hand tools, grips and screwdrivers
  • 4 axle stands
  • 1 trolley jack

Bedtime Reading

  • Jaguar XJ6 or Haynes Overhaul Manual (ISBN 0-85696-242-2) Can be ordered at bookshops.
  • Suffolk SS100 Build Manual ( Edition 5). Text is available Free of Charge as an email attachment, on request from: roger@ss100.com, or you can order a spiral bound, 90 page hard copy, at a cost of £20.00 (refundable against chassis purchase). Price includes 110 picture CD Rom. I usually have these items for sale at car shows.

Timescale

  • We have greatly reduced your assembly time by undertaking a more detailed preparation of the body and chassis related items. You should allow an assembly time of 400-500 hours to construct your Suffolk SS100. You can spread these hours over 7 months or a few years. We do not insist that you take parts from us at a faster rate than your personal build-up requirements. Typically you will take the chassis and suspension/brakes/ steering / drive shafts and differential as a First Delivery. This would be followed by engine /gearbox/ancillaries and exhaust system-Second Delivery . Then you will need body and fitting -up items-Third Delivery. Your costs cash flow is therefore spread over your build up period.

Financial

  • This car has been in continuous production for over 17 years. We are busier now than we have ever been, and confidently anticipate that the production of the car, and components, will continue forever. Except in exceptional circumstances, you will only be asked to pay for components when they are actually 'physical' or ready for collection / delivery.
  • We accept payment by cheque, bankers draft or bank transfer. Our bankers are:

    National Westminster Bank
    Sort code - 60 21 55. IBAN GB43NWBK602155 43342051
Account name - Suffolk Sportscars Ltd
    Account Number – 43342051
